While the system is powered off, hold the Volume Up/Down buttons down together at the same, and continue holding them while turning on the console until the maintenance applet appears. Here, you can update your console through the internet, or format/initialize the console (with you keeping or deleting user info, e.g. saves and screenshots). In version 1.0.0, this was known as Maintenance Mode.
