To unlock the knight Marl, the protagonist from V&B prequel 'Seven: Cavalry of Molmorth,' and the item Shion's Ring in year 1100, you must first unlock 1 secret character from Chapter 8 (1036-1049) and 5 from Chapter 9 (1050-1078). Each secret character must be unlocked by (1) listening to a rumor from the bartender in the specified town during the approximate year and (2) visiting the destination before the activated flag disappears.

Alugas (barbarian). Hands of Mud Doll, part 2 of 4 - Rumor: Skulea (S), yr 1055. Destination: Zeles (SW). Defeat Lv 7 Malgaron.
Baal (warrior). 'Seven' Picture Book, part 1 of 2 - Destination: Capitol, yr 1040. Defeat Lv 4 Giant.
Boo-Boo (magician). Feet of Mud Doll, part 3 of 4 - Rumor: Mezonea (E), yr 1061. Euro (NE). Quiz: (1) 1. (2) 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 3, 1, 2, 2, 1. (3) 1, 4, 4. (4) 3. (5) 2, 1, 3, 2, 1, 3. (6) 1, 3, 2.
Fia (cleric). 'Seven' Picture Book, part 2 of 2 - Rumor: Capitol, yr 1070 after calamity. Destination: Skulea (S). (1) to help. Then (2) to attack from flank. Defeat bandit group.
Freud (wizard). Head of Mud Doll, part 1 of 4 - Rumor: Capitol, yr 1050. Destination: Euro (NE). Defeat Lv 6 Acid Smoke.
Marl (knight). Destination: Barclay, yr 1101 - Marl joins in exchange for 2 Picture Books.
Reis (paladin). Body of Mud Doll, part 4 of 4 - Rumor: Capitol, yr 1065. Destination: Zeles (SW). Quiz: (1) 2. (2) 2. (3) 2. (4) 6, 2, 3, 1, 7. Defeat 300 HP; Reis needs final blow. Use a calculator
Shion's Ring (item) - Capitol, King's audience chamber, yr 1100. Give Kos-Mos 5 Mud Doll parts in exchange for Shion's Ring. Unequip after every 9 battles to preserve.
