If you see white sparkles in the water, waterfalls, bushes, grass or even trashcans, that means there are hidden items that can be picked up at that spot. These secret items appear even outside of quest items. Press the A key (for Interacting with the environment) to pick up the secret items when you’re standing next to the sparkles!
Make sure you buy at least six Smoke Bombs (aka Escape Ropes) which return you and your Tem to a nearby Healing Station. This is handy after battles to save you time getting around (as well as allow you to save on healing items), but it's also great in case you get stuck somewhere on the map due to an in-game bug, since this is an Early Access title for now.
