Halo: Combat Evolved Cheats

Successfully complete the last level of the game in campaign mode on the legendary difficulty setting. The new ending features a human and alien fighting hand to hand. The human will say "Its over", and then they hug because they know the explosion will kill them both. Also, the FMV sequence of each battle scene will be slightly longer.

Here's the trick: Drive a Warthog up to one of these caves with the teleporter inside and park the Warthog with the back (gunner platform) facing the wall which is facing the outside boundaries. Get out and jump onto the platform (don't climb aboard, simply jump on it). Next, facing the wall nearest the back and toss a frag grenade so that it bounces off the wall and under the 'hog. You should be catapulted on top of the map and will be able to walk outside the boundaries. | Submitted by buzzcut76guy

NOTE: Reading this walkthru will not get you through Legendary, it is done for Easy mode only. Also, I'm assuming at this part, that you have a Rocket Laucher (with 10 rockets) as one of your weapons.

Now to the walkthrough.

After defeating (or fleeing) the two Hunters in the room, you will get through a corridor and soon reach a door. At this point the "If I had a super weapon" part begins. Now, DON'T go through the door, now I'll tell you how to get a Banshee earlier than usual.

Pull out your Rocket Launcher and get ready to use the zoom. Then, strafe to the left of the door (facing the door and along the wall to the left). Next, approach the door until it opens. The moment the door has opened, quickly zoom in and shoot the Elite in the background (the one nearest the Banshee). If done correctly the Elite should die and the Banshee will stay there.

Make quick work of the second Elite as he could steal back the Banshee. Then, make your way towards the Banshee while shooting the scrambling Grunts. Defend the Banshee until there are no more enemies nearby.

While you were busy shooting up the group of Grunts, another Elite took off in a Banshee and is now shooting you. Pull out your Rocket Launcher and shoot down the Banshee (don't take off and start a dogfight, you might lose too much vehicle health).

-If you couldn't get the Banshee, scroll to the bottom of this text. Otherwise, carry on reading.-

Now that the enemy Banshee is out of the way, take off in the captured Banshee and make your way to the top of the Pyramid. Land close to the door control and open the doors. Now, if the Banshee is still pretty fit, take off and shoot a Fuel rocket (right mouse button) at the yellow Elite with the large, blue sword before he jumps on top of the vehicle. Make quick work of the Grunts and fly in the long corridor. At the end of it, two Elites are waiting. Get rid of them and land your Banshee.

Activate the last door opening and fly to the very last door (the one that triggers the scenery) and land. Open the door and watch the movie, you then move on to "343 Guilty Spark".

-If you didn't get the Banshee, read this.-

If you didn't get the Banshee, proceed all the way across the bridge and kill any enemies. Make you way into the structure and kill (or evade) any enemy inside. Find your way to the elevator which will take you down to the ground floor. Again, eliminate any threat on this floor (or evade them again) and make your way outside.

You should see a patrolling Elite and a Ghost. Cortana will hint you to commandeer the Ghost as you'll need the firepower. Try to sneak up on the Elite and kill it. Get the Ghost and make your way up the Pyramid. Kill any enemies along your climb and replenish yourself with ammo along the way.

Once you get to the top, you should be facing 3 Shades (empty, phew!). Soon, a Grunt comes down and attacks you. He is soon followed by another and, UH-OH! Two Hunters rush down towards you. Pull out your Rocket Launcher (right now I'm praying you still have ammo for it) and get rid of them ASAP.

Then, make your way up the slope to the door's control panel and open the door. Now, don't wait there and think you've passed the level. Run and duck behind one of the energy shields facing the door. Once your behind it, you will be 'invisible' to any Covenants. Take the time to spot and aim at the yellow Elite with the huge sword. Then, you can either toss a grenade so it sticks to it (and kills it) or shoot it with whatever you've got (basically, get rid of him FIRST).

Once you get rid of the Elite, take out the Grunts, replenish your ammo/battery life or grenades and make your way to the end of that corridor. You should bump against two Elites, get rid of them and then open the door. Make your way through the last stretch (no enemies here, as Cortana says) up to the very last door (the one that triggers the scenery).

Congratulations! You've finished the level, the scenery starts and then you embark on the next mission: 343 Guilty Spark.

Hope this helps. | Submitted by buzzcut76guy

When Covenant dropship is getting ready to unload a group of Covenants, throw a grenade into the door as it opens. The blast will kill several of the enemies since they are all in one area. There are places (especially in the first level) where a groups of Covenants are, waiting for you to barge in and start shooting. If you can, sneak to the aliens and throw a grenade into their midst. It is best when a plasma grenade sticks to a Grunt, because he will run behind the rest of his companions. One simple grenade can take out five Covenants.

Do not try to take out any Flood types with a sniper rifle. It will simply go through their bodies without killing them. The weapon of choice is the shotgun. You can take them down with one shot. Remember, the closer they are, the faster they fall. On the small crawling Flood, use your assault rifle in short controlled bursts. Once one pops, it will also pop the ones nearby. Save shotgun and pistol ammunition for the working class Flood to drop them fast. It is also a good idea to hit them with your gun after they fall to make sure they are dead. On the fat Flood, use the shotgun to pop them, then clean up with rifle. When you first meet the Flood, they will outnumber you in groups. For the large Flood, use a shotgun, rocket launcher, or most importantly, a fragmentation grenade. Do not use a plasma grenade because they will run towards you and kill you. When you get attacked by the Flood, after you make them fall down the first time, shoot their head off while they are on the ground. They will not get back up.

When the Grunts are sleeping you can beat them to death with the butt of your gun without waking up any of the other Grunts. You can usually kill a four to seven of them before an alien spots you. They start sleeping in level 5, Assault on the Control Room. Just remember not to shoot or they will wake up.

Normally Hunters are the hardest Covenant to kill, due to their powerful armor and shields. However, even the strongest armor has weak spots. If you look at their necks or backs, you can see an orange spot. Aim for it. One shot with any gun will kill them if you hit them there. The best way to kill a hunter is to use a sniper rifle to zoom in on the orange spot. If you are being chased by a Hunter or an alien with a sword, run backwards while facing the alien. Jump when they try to slash you. Throw a plasma grenade at the alien and it will stick to him. Turn around and run in a zig-zag pattern to make sure he does not catch you in the explosion. If you are playing cooperative multi-player mode, have player two run in front of the Hunter until his back is turned to player one. While the Hunter is trying to turn player two into mush, have player one run up to the Hunter's back and melee attack the orange spot. The Hunter should die with one hit. You can kill the Hunters in a head-on assault. Get in close and use the pistol or shotgun. Aim for the head holding down the trigger. Your first shot(s) will knock back the head, exposing the unarmored neck. One shot in the neck and they will die.

Use a photon weapon to destroy a Jackal's shield quickly. When you encounter a Jackal, run up and hit it with your weapon or get out a gun that uses bullets, not energy. When you are a far way away from Jackals and have a sniper, they will sit in the defense position and leave very little uncovered. You will notice that on the right or left is a small notch in the shield. Aim for it and the Jackal population will be severely decreased.

Beat The Maw on Legendary to get a slightly different ending.

This should work for all guns that can reload except for shotgun. Reload the gun, as soon as you see the clip into the gun animation, either switch guns or melee. The reload would save you good time. Works in all setting, including multiplayer.

If you have just won a game or would like to celebrate, take two plasma grenades and throw them on the same exact spot. The first grenade will explode, sending the second grenade into the air. After about one to two seconds, the grenade will explode blue.

Have at least two plasma grenades when your partner cannot find you. Throw one in any direction and without moving as quickly as possible, throw a second one. The first one will explode, sending the second one flying into the air. The grenade will explode at a very high point, acting as a flare so your partner can see where you are located. Note: Make sure that you do not move in any direction while doing this, or the second grenade will not go into the air, only sideways if anywhere.

NOTE:-This works best in CTF when on the red team.-

On the map "Bloody Gulch" there are small dirt paths going up against the hill sometimes indicating to a cave. Now, jump into the Rocket Warthog and get a passenger (with a sniper rifle) and a gunner. Then, look for the entrance to a cave (hidden behind big rock) and drive in. Go to the place where the Flame-Thrower is and tell your gunner to take the over-shield (he'll need it!).

Now comes the tricky part: keep driving along the ledge towards the Blue Base and drive through the next cave. Stop your Warthog on the ledge where you overlook the Blue base and order your gunner to "snipe" as well as your passenger. The only disadvantage is that the enemy might have a sniper hidden somewhere (this is what the over-shield is for!). Now, you can pound the base with rockets.

This is also a good defense point; when the an enemy is trying to enter your base and steal the flag, BOOM! pound him/her with rockets! | Submitted by buzzcut76guy

When you are facing a partner in multi-player and you cannot find ammunition, sneak up behind him and hit him in the back for an instant kill.

In split screen multi-player mode, equip you pistol. When you see your opposition, place the aiming circle on their chest. After each shot, aim higher until you are aiming at their head. If done correctly, it only requires three shots to kill and will leave your friends wondering what hit them.

This is a very interesting way to kill a player in a car. This trick requires is a plasma grenade and a human pistol. If your opponent tries to run you over, dodge him by moving to the left of the car. Try to get into the side seat of the car. Once this is done, throw a plasma grenade down. Jump out of the car and run. The pistol is used for backup. This may take a few times, and a few deaths.

Kill a Hunter with a melee attack (let him rush sidestep, then attack).
Kill a Golod Swordman with a melee attack (hit him with a pistol burst from very close, then immediately attack).
Run over enemies with a Warhog.
Blast groups of enemies with a Scorpion Cannon.
Skip a major part of level 5.
Shoot down a Banshee with a rocket launcher.
Shoot down a Banshee from a Banshee.
Finish the game in legendary mode.
Playing through the entire game co-op in legendary mode.
Taking out a friend (not in a vehicle) in multi-player with a plasma grenade.

In multi-player mode, drive any Warthog close to a building so that the side of it is touching. Get in the gunners turret and turn it towards the wall. If done correctly and you are close enough, you should be able to to shoot at an enemy through the wall and not receive damage from them if they shoot back.

You can sneak up on the radar by crouching down when running.

In the fifth level, at the beginning when you are released of the pelican, immediatly press ''e'' to get back onto the pelican and continue flying with the ship. But eventually you will die.

Right click the Halo shortcut on your desktop, and go to properties. On the shortcut tab, add "-screenshot" without quotes to the end of the "Target" box. Remember to put a space before the dash. Click OK, and then run Halo using that shortcut. Once Halo is up and running, you can press the Print Screen key on your keyboard at any time to take a screenshot. The file will be placed in your "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\screenshots\" folder in TGA format. You can use QuickTime to open it.IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you exit Halo and open it again, any previous screenshots will be overwritten, so you have to copy any pics you want to keep to another folder.

Towards the beginning of the game, there is a way to bypass the two weapon limit and carry three weapons at once. On the first level, make your way to the bridge. After speaking with the captain, quickly run out of the bridge before the chapter name disappears. If you were fast enough, the checkpoint at the door will not trigger. Now run to the mess hall and get your Assault Rifle and another weapon. Now, run back to the bridge and trigger the checkpoint. When you go back towards the mess hall, the pistol will appear in your hands, and you will be carrying three weapons instead of two. Each gun reloads and exchanges normally. Note: This only lasts for the first level.

Always use a good combination of weapons, and think about your surroundings and enemies when choosing weapons. The sniper rifle is great until you reach the Flood. A good combination is the shotgun (the human pistol before you reach the Flood), an automatic weapon, and grenades. If you do not prefer to follow this example, then remember to use a combination of short and long range weapons.

Conserve ammunition. Never waste ammunition, always gather as much ammunition as possible, reload your weapon during any break in the action, and switch off any plasma weapon for a better one whenever possible.

Take it slow. Do not burst in to take all of the fire. Also, use the scenery as a cover. If you can fit behind it, you can hide behind it.

Use the enemies themselves to your advantage. Remember that each enemy type has their own mannerisms and characteristics.

Take shortcuts when possible. Here are some examples. In The Silent Cartographer level head directly to the security override station. In the Assault On The Control Room level, after you get one of the early Banshees, in the area after you go under the tunnel you cannot take the tank through, the double bridge will be directly above you. Ride the Banshee to the bridge and skip a large portion of that level. Taking this shortcut means there will be no more enemies throughout the rest of the level. In the 343 Guilty Spark level, go to the secret area with the 2-D trees and follow the cliff through the structure that goes indoors. In The Maw level, after the dropship gets taken down, you will keep going. Continue until you see the first open door on your right. Enter there and take another right. This can shave a good minute and a half off the time it takes to get to the Longsword at the end of the level.

When fighting Covenant or Floods, try to spot which weapon is the most available. In some missions, for example, it might be the Plasma Rifle and the human Pistol. Once you've spotted these, make use of them. If you arrive on a mission and find a weapon but soon run out of ammo (or battery life) and can't find any, it could put you in danger. Especially in the heat of a battle. So keep in mind which weapon comes up the most in which mission so you can make great use of them.

Another tip, when battling (especially the Floods on 343 Guilty Spark) don't make use of all your grenades. If you see you can't get a clear toss, then don't waste one. Grenades are most rare when needed. | Submitted by buzzcut76guy

On a level where you can find a group of five or more marines (such as Assault On The Control Room), kill three marines quickly. The remaining marines will call you a traitor (shouting things like "He's loco!") and will start firing at you. If you shoot them, sometimes they will ask you if they owe you money or tell you to clean the mud off your visor. Also, after being considered a traitor, if you want to regain the Marines' trust, find some Covenant and kill them. If you kill enough of them, the Motion Tracker will show Yellow-Green points where your "fellow" Marines are and they will not shoot you, though they may aim at you. Note: This was done in the Halo level.

Plasma Grenades for:

Grunts; when it sticks to them, they will usually run into their comrades asking to take it out (which is useful for killing great masses!)

Elite; will usually dodge them but if you get close enough you should try to stick it on them (should kill em' first time, if not they get pissed off!)

Hunters; they are slow at dodging em', but its useless (only if you want an angry Hunter charging you)

Flood; don't try it, if it sticks to them they might jump at you and bring you to your death. It is effective against small ones, but only if it doesn't stick to them.

Jackals; they usually ignore grenades.

Now, Frag grenades for:

Floods; These won't stick to them which is good against the small ones.

Grunts; Useful when cornered, but not very useful when in open fields (maybe against large packs otherwise they can easily dodge them)

Elite; Again, one should do the trick when cornered but in open fields its no good (they dodge them easily)

Hunters; Useful anywhere (they are slow at dodging them) but it will only get them angry instead of killing them.

Jackals; will usually ignore grenades, but be careful with frag grenades: they might bounce off their shield and come back at you.

Another tip when you need to kill great masses of aliens or in multiplayer games:

When throwing a plasma grenade on the floor, their is a 3secs pause before it blows up. Now, when wanting to spread grenades, throw a plasma grenade anywhere on the floor (preferably near your opponents) then quickly throw another right next to it. When the first grenade will explode, it'll catapult far away any other grenade near the explosion.

Hope this will help you. Have Fun! | Submitted by buzzcut76guy
