When I was on the other side of the island, I would make sure my inventory was full, then click on the farms. When you do the items from the farm will drop on the ground and won't disappear so you can retrieve them whenever you need them. Even if you leave the game and come back, they're still on the ground.

On the east side now, I save inventory by shooting quails but don't grab them. This is useful for the daily gift quests, like when they ask to make quail soup. I would already have a pile of quails so I don't have to wait for them to regenerate. This goes the same for when chopping down trees for lumber or torches, cutting vines, breaking rocks, etc. This also helps you get closer to the trophy goals and get more diamonds.
