What better way to test for structural security than going in yourself, all guns blazing? Yeah, on the base building menu you can happily try things out for yourself, see if you can hold up against your own defences. You won't get any points for this of course, but you will be able to see which bits are more difficult, or easier, for your enemies to get through, so you can reinforce them. You have to pay close attention to the ranges of the your traps and cannons, because of course, they're going to be useless if they can't reach their targets. Of course, this also means that incredibly long-range weapons, like mortars, have an advantage nearer the base, so they can fire while the enemies are moving up. Place mortars behind your wall barrier, where enemies will have to stay fairly still to tear it down, and you're likely to do heavy damage. You want to build up an incredibly perilous, destructive path while on the way to your base, filled with cannons and explosives. You can feel comfortable loading up the path in three areas - near your base, near the start, and near the wall. Blowing opponents up near the start is a good strategy to prevent them from getting too close, but opponents may decide to hang back and heal after dealing damage, undoing your efforts. That ship you fly is a beauty, and now you've just got to make sure she's fully equipped to take on enemies. Increase sections like the Armory in order to place down more turrets and cannons, giving your base, well, more chance of surviving, frankly.
