You will not have adequate resources to keep the generators and fires entering all the structures around. This is why I suggest discovering a building and making it your home: the place where you collect your survivors to eat, to sleep, and where you have a fire going and electrical energy performing at perpetuity. It is perfect if you handle to find such a place (so with a minimum of a bed) in the center of the map, considering that it makes it much easier to check out surrounding businesses. If you can't, just get any building with a bed that you have around and use it as your home base.
