Sanxion
Alternate levels for Sanxion - C64 |
Start a game normally. Now this is the tricky part. Purposely get destroyed at the right moment. The right moment is just after leaving the city (the background colors change). If done right, then you will resurrect precisely on the "border" between the sections. If done right, the bonus will be given and your ship will land, "winning" the level. The next level will be completely different, and some of the enemies will be holograms (i.e. you can safely fly through them). The levels will be changed, as follows: The "sectional" levels (where reaching a terrain-change point will cause all on-screen enemies to self-destruct, and new enemies to appear) will be substituted with alternate levels. Level 8 will be as usual, except that the "speed-wall" section will be removed. Level 9 will seem like part of the "real" level 9, but it will begin with a couple of enemy ships that transform. The other levels will be mostly normal. Bonus levels will be as usual. After level 10, the levels will return to normal, except be abbreviated, and skewed (and you will "land" in the middle of a field or ocean rather than on a runway to finish the level).
Maybe these were alternate versions of the levels that didn't make the final cut, but weren't removed from the coding. On one occasion, doing the trick caused yet another alternate version of level 2 to appear. And another time, the level didn't end, but the level waited another section before changing colors, resulting in some psychedelic color combinations (and an ocean colored like desert), as well as landing in the wrong spot. The trick can also be triggered at other "change points," in fact it was originally discovered at level 7, when being destroyed by one of the spinning formations.
