After landing a consecutive number of hits on your opponent, your character's special ability meter will fill. After it is completely filled, you can activate the special ability which starts a quick-time-event. You may need to stop a spinning icon at a certain location or quickly slash in the displayed directions. The better you complete those tasks, the better your special attack.
