Level up your character by breaking experience blocks between fights, unless you are very low on health. You can grind experience points and gold by fighting weaker monsters. As this will clutter the level, do not do this when about to face a Boss. Weaken any encountered enemies as much as possible without killing them. Once you have gathered enough gold and experience points, kill them.
