1984 Reference

After the introduction, when you are walking back into Sarif HQ (during a cutscene), note that the side of the security cameras references "Big Bro Surveillance." That's a nod to George Orwell's classic science fiction novel, 1984, wherein people's actions are monitored by the menacing "Big Brother."

Demolition Man Reference

When infiltrating the penthouse apartment in Hengsha for the mission "Hunting the Hacker," you can hit up the bathroom and find 3 seashells instead of toilet paper. This is a reference to the 1993 movie Demolition Man.

Deus Ex Reference: Smash the State

There's a sidequest where you run into Officer Nicholas (after obtaining Sandoval's location mid-to-lateway in the game) and are told to eliminate Jacob White (a member of Motor City Bangers). According to your mission log, the sidequest is named Smash the State. This is a reference to the original Deus Ex in which "smashthestate" was used as one of the first obtainable security logins used for gaining access to a central building on Liberty Island. The pocket secretary that you pick up from White also references smashthestate in the address heading.

Easier Passcode Input

When inputting keycodes or passwords, you may use a USB keyboard for the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 to serve as your "keyboard". You may also use a system-approved mini-keyboard (or chat keyboard) for this purpose.

Easy Funicular Wait

In Picus Communications, when you have to wait for the Funicular to come up, there will be enemies that will arrive to fight you. Before you hit the elevator button, block both entrances into the room with heavy objects. This is only possible if you have the Move/Lift Heavy Objects augment.

There are two vending machines outside the room, two crates (one short, one big) next to the security computer, and the turret in the center that can be used to block the lower doorway and the side corridor.

If you block the doorways correctly, the guards will stay in another room outside the whole time you're waiting for the Funicular. It would be wise to save before you hit the elevator button in case the barricades don't work.

Easy Storage

If you want to store an item instead of lugging it around, just throw it on the ground. The game always saves the location of items -- even if you leave the region.

Easy XP

There are two ways to gain a lot of extra XP with minimal effort: Hacking and Non-Lethal Actions

Hacking: when every you get the chance, and if you have the appropriate level of hacking skill, hack everything you can. These simple tasks will earn you easy XP, and can even unlock extra goodies along the way (an access code, extra credits)

Non-Lethal Actions: Non-lethal takedowns/kills earn you more XP than you would with lethal ones. Also, if you have the Reflex Booster augmentation (which allows you to take down two enemies at once) you can earn an easy 125 XP from a NL takedown than from a lethal.

Fight Club Reference

At the Hive's men's restroom, there is a pocket secretary that gives the door code for the back room that also states that someone broke the first rule by talking about what goes on in the basement. Its simply signed T. This is a reference to Fight Club.

Final Fantasy 27 Reference

When you enter Pritchard’s office, look on his wall above his motorcycle to spot the Final Fantasy game of the future.

House Reference

In the sidequest you get from Malik in Shanghai(Shanghai Justice),you have to meet with a guy called Anonymous X. He will give you an autopsy report. If you look closely there is a sentence Dr. House said once, "All that is necessary for triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Also if you look who wrote the report you'll see that the name of the doctor is 'Dr. Gregory H. M.D.'

Infinite Ammo: The Turret Method

Upgrade Hacking and Strength and you can pick up turrets, which have infinite ammo. Set them down or, let them fire while you move, to clear out a room easily! you still get XP points, and even headshots. you can also do this with robots.

Infinite XP Hacking Exploit

Best find a terminal that has a lot of XP awards (Adam Jensen’s laptop in Sarif Industries is a good candidate, as revealed by the dude in the video).

Basically:

Save the game before attempting to hack a terminal or device.
You will be reloading the save file made in step 1 after each successful hacking attempt.
Successfully hack the device (preferably the security node, so you unlock all the data stores).
Use as many Nuke Viruses and Stop Worms as you need, since you will be reloading the game.
Once the device hacking is successful, you will be presented with the hacking results screen, and the prompt to continue.
Do not press the button to continue.
Load the save game made in step 1 instead.

Repeat steps 3 to 7. You will notice the totals on the hacking results screen increase and accrue from your previous attempts.

When you are ready to barf twice, accept the hacking results and the 'Updates' notifications will show the results of all your prior attempts.
Note: The data packets earned from hacking and reloading are are still issued if you complete a on different terminal. So, if you milk Jensen's terminal, you can walk accross the hall and still get it all.

Look Around During Dialog

During 3rd person, non-cutscene dialog between Adam and another character, you can look around by holding down the AIM button and looking around with normal controls.

Lots of XP in China

In Hengsha, every store has a back door. Open it and walk inside for a Traveler bonus of 100 XP.

Megadeth Reference

In a secret room in Singapore hangar below control switch you'll find level 5 computer and cooling upgrade. There is an email on a computer named 'Hangar 18,' written by Dave One. This contains sections of the lyrics to the Megadeth song Hanger One. The computer user MSTAINE is a reference to Megadeth member Dave Mustaine.

Note that finding this computer grants the Hangar 18 Trophy / Achievement.

Office Space Reference

There is a computer in the Singapore secret facility that has an email that mentions someone needing to return a stapler. This is a reference to the movie Office Space.

QR Codes

The QR codes on boxes and other things in the game are real. Scan them off your screen with a cellphone to read the hidden messages.

Robocop Reference

In the Detroit police station you can find one officer that may seem particularly familiar... Robocop's human precursor was named 'Alex Murphy,' and the guy at the desk talking about 80s movies has the same name.

This is likely a reference to the rumored continuation of the Star Wars series with a new trilogy of episodes numbered 7-9 set to take place after the original trilogy, as well as a nod to the fact that Star Wars movies are notorious for having long lines on opening weekend.
